Can I join a Yaz class action lawsuit?
Right now Yaz lawsuits are being handled on an individual basis, rather than as a single Yaz class action lawsuit. A class action lawsuit bundles cases against a common defendant together and if successful, will grant a settlement that is split equally among individual class members according to a predetermined set of circumstances. A Yaz class action lawsuit has not been the standard choice for most claims against the makers of the birth control pills.
Rather, most Yaz lawsuits are filed individually either as a part of the Yaz multidistrict litigation or mass tort. These scenarios offer the benefit of a streamlined process in an effort to maximize judicial efficiency, minimize duplicative discovery, and expedite the resolution of the cases. Ultimately, Yaz lawyers want to encourage the makers of Yaz to stop fighting the cases and start settling them.
Yaz multidistrict litigation and Yaz mass tort lawsuits
Yaz multidistrict litigation, or Yaz MDL, pertains to lawsuits filed in federal court. The Yaz MDL is currently consolidated in the Southern District of Illinois under the supervision of the Honorable Judge Herndon. Thousands of cases are currently pending in the Yaz MDL with the first bellwether trials set to to begin in early 2012.
Other litigants have filed suit on the state level in a Yaz mass tort lawsuit. Mass tort lawsuits are currently taking place in New Jersey before the Honoral Judge Martinotti. Other Yaz mass tort lawsuits are pending in both Pennsylvania and California state courts.
