Yaz Death Causes Families to File Lawsuits

Families all over the country are filing Yaz death lawsuits on behalf of daughters and mothers who have allegedly died as a result of Yaz blood clots.

Yaz is a popular oral contraceptive known to cause blood clots, pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack and deep vein thrombosis (Yaz DVT). Yaz lawyers are managing more than 11,000 lawsuits against manufacturer, Bayer. Earlier this year, Bayer settled 500 Yaz blood clots lawsuits to the tune of $110 million.

Despite these settlements, families continue to suffer after losing family members to Yaz side effects.

Yaz blood clots lead to death

A Yaz death may be attributed to several conditions but frequently starts with blood clots, which develop to stop bleeding. But they can also block blood vessels, preventing blood from pumping through the body or, in more extreme cases, causing them to burst.

In 2009, teenager Brittany Prewitt died as a result of a Yaz pulmonary embolism, which is a type of blood clot that forms in the lungs. Although she wasn’t sexually active at the time, Prewitt started taking Yaz in 2007 when she was only 13 years old. Two years later, blood clots ended her life. Her mother filed a lawsuit on her behalf.

In 2009, another grieving mother file a Yaz death lawsuit. Paulette Morgan filed her case after her daughter, Alice, allegedly died as a result of blood clots after taking Yaz.

New Jersey mother Joan Cummins also filed a wrongful death lawsuit after her daughter had a heart attack triggered by a blood clot in the lungs and died.

Families filing lawsuits on behalf of deceased family members accuse Bayer of failing to warn them about serious Yaz side effects, including Yaz blood clots.

Yaz lawyers fighting for families

In October, 2011, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported a study showing women taking drospirenone (a component in Yaz) have a 74 percent higher risk of developing blood clots than those taking other contraceptives. This number is reflected in the thousands of lawsuits filed by Yaz lawyers.

Yaz lawyers seek to obtain financial compensation for emotional, physical and financial harm caused to families suffering from Yaz side effects such as blood clots. Yaz attorneys have had some success in regards to Yaz settlements. Although Bayer recently settled 500 cases, the company still faces thousands of lawsuits.
